For the next 3 months I will be sharing about our expected visitors with this insert being the 1st and I decided to aptly title it ‘Go proclaim all nations’ taking the Great Commission from the book of Matthew. From the July 7-August 7,a team of approximately 120 consisting of missionary kids (MK), Campus Crusade for Christ (CCC) interns and staff will be joining us in Durban.MK, a title given to high school students whom their parents are serving in CCC as staff from different cultures and countries of the world, are joining us for a ministry of outreach to different high school students through their classrooms, sports and drama in and around Durban for the entire month. This is a community of MK’s where discipleship takes place by university students. There are proactive in partnering with other ministry and for the first time since the organization had been conceived, they have never visited South Africa, so it’s a great privilege to host them as well as serve with them. We, Durban team and our campus students with the international team, will also be involved in humanitarian work including HIV/AIDS education in the schools and children’s ministry with bible day camps. The MK’s come together seasonally from different parts of the world and plan mission trips such as this one, conferences, internships, etc. This is a great opportunity as well for our students and us to continue reaching our city during the holidays – we encouraging those students who live around Durban to join us.

Today we had been sitting with the Durban team planning on what we are wanting to do when the MK's get to Durban, where we would like them to serve in ministry within the community and in our schools, the schools which CrossRoads have been working and also which we would like to expand.

Guess who was on the last, 18th, tee today. I knew I should of taken a few swing practices before I actually got to the course but anyway today we were fundraising for Campus Crusade for Christ ministry in South Africa at the Umhlali Country Club just off Ballito. Praise the Lord that he held back weather  because when seeing a cloudy sky two hours before a 18 tee golf course, you tend to worry. The day was a great success, I am not at all sure how much we had raised but we had 18 tees (21 groups) with 4 individuals per group who had played if my figures are not off. Though the day was long it was so amazing being on the golf course. It was a beautiful sight for sure. Big ups to the estate.

Smart Choice Training in KwaMashu

Smart choices workshops are designed to help combat the HIV epidemic by educating adolescents and young adults about choices and consequences. In the process of learning about HIV, infection and transmission, we also help students, learners and adolescents realize that they are unique, valuable and deeply loved. This is by introducing them to the Love of Christ and ultimately leading them to make a choice about their relationship with God. Its an evangelistic tool which in Durban for a while has been used in different high schools and I have had the great opportunity of being this month along side some of the church members from KwaMashu Anglican Church, an initiative of Church-led movement. In anticipation of the coming year, we will be working with some of the high schools in numerous area’s such as Ntuzuma, KwaMashu, KwaDabeka, Inanda. This is a fantastic opportunity to present Christ often in communities where spirituality means listening to Gospel music on Sunday’s. Moving from a ‘religion’ mentality to a relationship with Christ is very central to any Gospel presentation. ‘Clearly no-one is justified before God by the Law because, “the righteous will live by faith.”’ - Galations 3:11

Just heard from Pastor Goba that the Anglican Church CrossRoads team went to a high school from tomorrow and will be there until Thursday to teach one class Smart Choices. We praying for a great response from the teenagers and those who wish to accept Christ and get involved in their local church to link up with the Anglican church which will be discipling those school teens.

Ps. Praise the Lord for the money that was donated towards the 6 interns to attend the training that weekend. It couldn't have come at a more appropriate timing. 

Raining appointment

As I walk out of my apartment gate, Mom Price reminds me and shares that: "Remember in many cultures rain is considered a blessing. So what blessings does He have in store for Bafana today?". The entire taxi ride to my support appointment, it rings in my head, I reply with a conventional "LOL!" gesture. I'm thinking: "Dude you so uncultured, remember Shaka Zulu, tribe meetings they told you about this 'blessing', on and on!" Oh stop it, you cracking yourself up with your sense of humour.

Replay an hour before I got to that point, I was running frantically (well that's an exaggeration but you get my point) anyways, I was running frantically in the house preparing for my support appointment this morning. I still had envelopes to seal, odd pages to print, preparations for our meeting with the MK2MK planning team, Ps. Goba, Mpume Mthembu and Mom Price. Across the printer is the glass door and I hear this stone beat on in. At first I ignore it and then a triple beat almost simultaneously. I go to check outside and to my amazement, small marble size ice hit the tarred driveway - now that's me thinking to myself I'm still half asleep because that couldn't possibly happen: not in Durban and definitely NOT TODAY! I brace myself with sneaks which surely will give me a grip in the bustle of Pinetown as us, the working class, navigate through and a grip on the situation really. MPD appointment and hail at the same time - I'm definitely not prepared for this. Support appointment - ye I got this on lock down but hail...you must have a great sense of humour mother earth. Wrapping everything up and running into the raging furnace of hydrogen dioxide (sounds wrong), half way the rain stops! Yikkes. Only to find, 10 minutes in my taxi ride, Humpty Dumpty falls again, raging like mad. 5 minutes under the umbrella jeans are wet and I feel washed up ... support appointment here I come ... NAY!

Sigh! MPD for the couple of months has been a course, a course to train me and my team, sharpening us ... for what? not sure as yet but I've got my fingers pointed somewhere!

Praise the Lord! The earth is filled with His goodness. Praise the Lord for this amazing opportunity to share on what He has been doing in our campuses, the impact He has had on our students. To share His doings in our city. Praise the Lord for giving me this opportunity to share a testimony! Through the rain, your mercy and grace prevails! Let the nations be glad for you have watered the seeds to grow, you have filled water in a rural drum so that kids can have water to wash their hands before they eat. Trully I say, you have blessed your people by your character which surpasses all understanding!

Ministry Partner Development (MPD) - raising support for my internship this year has taught me more than I could have expected so far. One thing it has not been is what I had expected it to be when I had signed on the dotted line. Starting the journey on my MPD was with a book recommended that we all read it aptly titled: Funding your minsitry by Scott Morgan. Though I did not read it from cover to cover, I had left chapter some what with the confidence that '...ye I can do this...lets do this!'. Morgan's outlook on ministry development is nicely wrapped in a 216 page brown covered book: from attitude change towards ministry development and resourcing, to practical essential fundraising strategies, to becoming organized including bible studies on resource development - thats what you get for being in ministry for a couple of years - its all clear in your mind. I find myself, 5 months down the line, still praising the Lord for all the valuable skills he has allowed me to seek and grow in.

One trustful saying that Joshua clinged onto both from Moses and the Lord is: Be strong and couragous. Do not fear or be dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will never leave you nor will he forsake you. - Deut 31:6 (ESV). Thus has been my praise item these past months. From my team and I, there has been so many partners and sponsors that have been taken from their tithing or free-will offering and have given to our ministry. There has been an overwhelming amount of support from family and friends and also from partners and supporters who contribute to our ministry. Our supporters are God-given to us! They are Gods answer to prayer.

Lessons learnt! Below is Robyn-Lee Samuels blog entry on an MPD appointment she had some few weeks ago. She highlights some of the most crucial aspects of what we all have been learning:

In my excitement to be punctual for a Ministry Partnership appointment I had in Cape Town I bought a ticket for my first train ride a day in advance. The appointment had been scheduled for Tuesday 6th March at the V & A Waterfront. Unfortunately, my ticket was for Tuesday 5th March — an error I could have avoided had I mentioned the date I wished to travel by train. But the pre-mature ticket was merely the tip of my first-train-ride iceberg. While en route to meet the potential ministry partner, she asked to reschedule the appointment. This is one of the many unfortunate events that form part of the beauty that is Ministry Partnership Development (MPD). During MPD I build a team of partners who invest in my ministry financially and especially through prayer and encouragement. As I continue to trust God for people like you to partner with me, there will be many more unused tickets, unanswered phone calls and unread emails.Still I learn to be patient and enjoy the beauty that is around me. I explore new territories and appreciate the greater Cape Town area. Moreover I learn, I grow and I move forward — saving every unused ticket as a reminder of the lessons learned and the memories created through my MPD process.
