Children's Ministry

Being part of children's ministry at a local church with the MK2MK team encouraged me...not to be afraid of kids.

I'm not sure what biblical significance rain has but once again the Lord has totally awed me today. The last time I wrote an entry on a rainy day was when I had an MPD appointment in town with a financial head of a reputable paint store in Pinetown. After the toil of that morning I went into that appointment in eager expectation. Of what really, it was more of could this day get any worse? Well the outcome of that day excited me that I blogged about it - something I hardly ever do.

Same story today, different situation. Having to go to campus this morning with rain beating on my sweater it was more of...do I really have to do this. I knew I had commitments and had arranged follow up meetings with two students - that I had to honour without a shadow of doubt so any pathetic excuse I would make would triumph meeting students hence why bother make any.

My first follow up was with a student I met 2 weeks back. Having to speak with him I wasn't ready to share the spiritual laws with him (warning: don't do this at home - unless under the Holy Spirit) so I just left him a copy and asked him to go through it and I would call him later. 2 weeks down the line I meet him and encouraged to see he actually did go through them. Sharing it with him, he shared he really didn't experience the peace, joy, satisfaction of having accepted Christ back in high school; that the life he had been living was not really Christ-filled and directed which was a concern for him. Cut it short, he rededicated his life to Christ and we will be meeting for further follow ups.

I met a student I've been having follow-up bible study with him. We spoke about confidence in Gods promises largely focusing on relationship and fellowship with God. It came to the part that we were to pray to close our meeting and I asked him are there any areas he would want me to pray for and he shared those. Later asking him if he could pray for me he was shocked. 'I've never prayed for anyone before' he said. I wanted him to pray for me even more! When he did I was like 'Really now!'. Holy Spirit explosion there. I'm not sure I should say this but that was a great prayer - now I want him to pray for me more and more.

Thank you rain for blessing my day!

We thank God for all the fruits on our campus and please continue praying for our leaders

• Who is this retreat for?
  • follow up students,
  • identifying some of the students we would like to see lead campus ministry in the following year
  • for us interns – to be able to better pour into the lives of students and so minister to them
  • to consolidate all the ministry growth [can easily apply 2 months of discipleship]

What are the specific objectives we plan to accomplish?
  • Keeping unity between the two different campuses/a sense of relationships even if they are on the different campuses
  • Mobilize students for the final term including recruiting students for the internship, leadership challenging, etc
  • Students experiencing Christ, hearing from God

• What are the needs we would most like to meet for this group?
  • Time management (being good stewards of our time)
  • Leading with confidence? Good idea for woman’s time
  • Prayer and identifying how of an effective tool it is
  • Church involvement – why we need be in church (testimony)
  • Sharing testimonies – help students over come how to share their testimonies

Its seems like for the next couple of months if not until the end of year, my internship will hint out the contribution the MK2MK Conference 2012 had of great significance in my life.

Its that time of the year when we are head in with preparations for the up coming student camp. There is certainly a long road that stands between the last camp  we had in 2011 with the students on campus to the camp we would have now. With 3 weeks closing in faster than liking whats needs to be prepared and planned for this camp in particular is overwhelming and certainly one good trait that would be helpful is team work.

Thank you MK2MK Staff for preparing this newsletter!

"God is the one who is for us - therefore we can trust promise which has been set before us. "

Sitting in the weekly meeting with Lelo speaking on the Romans Series from 8 to 9. His talk basically looked at how we can have assurance and confidence in Christ promises which have began way before our foundations on the earth. How His love can not be separated from us! This ties in amazingly with the discipleship groups and follow ups some students have been going through. I could imagine how encouraging his talk would be to a new believer especially so if they are going through discipleship with a student leader.

Everything Skit: This skit was performed over 10 times in different schools, community churches as well during beach evangelism during the MK2MK Summer Project in Durban. I have seen a couple of these skits being performed in student conferences and retreats but what stands out for me of this one in particular is how strong the emotions in it was. It felt real! I am no 3rd year drama major student but being in the audience certainly gave me the opportunity to 'get impressed' and I loved it. The MK's and the interns did a great job in the coordination of these skits from preparation right through to delivery. It represents how we as beings can backslide back into a life of sin filled with our own selfish desires which draw us further away from God while we try to reach God to fail until He comes Himself to redeem us. It has with it a clear cut gospel presentation. This is one incredible creative way to share the Gospel especially in schools and camps. During their project using this tool, we were able to share in to more than 1200 people in churches and school alone!

Pheeeu!

Just returning from a long month of work with the summer projects, MK2MK and WSN with the local students, the next project on our plate as a team is organizing a campus camp which ideally should take place during the 21st to 23rd of September. What I didn't know is that that is the most busiest season for most if not all campsites in and around Durban. Its been quite a stretch in actually securing a campsite for the weekend and for me, things are standing still as we still search for a site. There are many ranging thoughts of putting up the price for students to start arranging either with their parents or just putting it within their budget. Time is really running out of time and I am still looking for campsites to accomodate us. The idea is to have a site affordable for students as we want all our students to be able to come or raise funds to attend camp to the extend as well on how we can assist them to actually come to raise enough funds to attend the camp.
