Children's Ministry

Being part of children's ministry at a local church with the MK2MK team encouraged me...not to be afraid of kids.

Dr. Mike Anderson (middle) standing with some students from Howard Campus who have attended the seminar

In my third year of study, what our ministry leader Alyssa Monda would often share with us is, in order of importance: Love 1God, 2your studies, 3your responsibilities in ministry.

Dr. Mike Anderson who has taught philosophy of science at WITS and co-ordinated a graduate course in religion and science at the University of Cape Town and is in full time ministry as a writer, speaker and educational software developer focusing especially on Jesus and evolution, visited our campuses for 3 days. We had the opportunity to have him speaking at Westville, Edgewood and Howard campus on ‘Exam Strategy and Life’. This seminar was more on how to get students prepared for examinations as they are around the corner. He spoke on the importance of developing exam strategies for before, during and after exams with prominence on after. Students found his talk quite helpful in such regards and was a great blessing to them. His initial trip to Durban, was an effort to discuss with him some of the ways he could be of assistant to student leaders in their ministry. Example of this would be Science faculty outreach with him speaking on “Evolution and creation – their compatibility with the Gospel or lack-off”. Please be praying for the Lord to put in our hearts how we could use Dr. Anderson to reach our campuses for the next semester.

This way please
Show-day!!! I would say that some of us come with reservations of how the show would pan out and how direct and clear the message would be when Adrian performs on stage but at the word GO, having lunch with him, Gary and Janet, it became straightly apparent that this man is a Jesus Freak...well so to say. Organising an illusionist show, there are numerous cultural objections that one has but learning initially that these are all illusions changes one's perception on the ART of illusion. "...all the acts that you see on stage are merely achieved through natural  means, nothing of the supernatural..." says Adrian.

Watching the show, he came across as being very articulate in his Gospel presentation, linking the illusions/arts he does on stage to how they relate firstly to the Gospel, salvation and his testimony. Across the world there are numerous 'beliefs' which he has to kinda explain and for South Africa one topic, which is so culturally relavant especially as he performs in high schools is ancestral worship, how power and fear obstructs people to accept Christ. I am still writing my class report on him so the more shows to come, the more I can share on some of the aspects he touches on.

As Adrian prepares for the show

The show was well received by the adience and like I said, this man is a great communicater and very very articulate in his message

Penny Dugan (Founder of Ukukhanya Life Care Centre) just landed on Thursday from Ah-May-Ri-Kah and I invited her to come along for the show and bring some of the kids from the centre

His scheduled to perform on our campuses on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Unfortunately we had to cancel some of his shows specifically one on PMB campus because he is still on recovery from a skin reaction he had on his hand, apparently he was exposed to a chemical that causes that and he hasn't had a day rest for a week, performing everyday, up to 3 shows per day in Pretoria

These couple of few days has been a bit too relaxed on my part. I guess the door closing before you more than once when trying to raise support does take its toll - there are two effects that arise from that: 1. You learn to trust in the Lord for the coming resources and not man 2. You await in eager expectation to see the Lord provide as you continue raising support.

Reading scripture's from Philippians, it was evident that Paul himself faced a number of obstacle when raising support in that there were minor humps and bumps but it strikes me when he says: '... I have learnt the secret of of being content in any and every situation whether fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.' He then throws me out when he says : ' I can do everything through Christ who strengthens me.' {Phil 4:12-13}. It's one of those things that Paul didn't acquire when he started ministry work but became something he learnt WHILE doing ministry work. One one thing he never forgot to do was thank those who partnered with him in the Lord and really encouraged them to continue seeking the Lord in their walk.

There is obviously the lingering of uncertainty to when will I reach THAT mark because I cannot start my ministry until I do but the life app that Paul shares with the Philippians is of great importance
