Children's Ministry

Being part of children's ministry at a local church with the MK2MK team encouraged me...not to be afraid of kids.

Putting my pants this morning, I was thinking: 'These. are your good pants Bafana, and the intention is not to get them dirtied up coz they WILL need dry cleaning'. For a second I feel like I sound like my mom. I definitely threw that thought out of mind when I decided to work with the '100 kids church' - a term used by an MK Leader Jon to differentiate between the 3 other churches with my group of MK's spending their Sundays at Ps. Tsotetsi's church in Lindelani Township. The first Sunday we got there we kinda invited more than 50 kids from the community giving us just below 100 kids in childrens ministry that Sunday so the name kinda stuck!

It was a great lot of fun serving in that particular ministry. Though the church has a different style to hosting childrens ministry they really didn't expect us to do what we did. A concoction you get when you mix guitar, cotton puffs, balloons and ALOT of games! A beautiful skit was performed for the church by the MK's. Although I have seen it performed before, this one was very striking as it communicated so much emotions ... great job well done from my side.

Will soon post pictures up!

King

These are the concepts Paul Meyer uses to define some of the key characteristics of man. With a room filled with 20 odd guys, we sit juicing out wisdom from him. For me, he has and still is living a life that fully represents a real man. From there way he treats his family to how he responds to strangers, Paul has showed me and some of the guys over the few weeks we have spent with him as he visits South Africa with the WSN project the essence of man.

His heart wrenching testimony of how he when he was a young man desired to leave a legacy has come into realization and manifestation in appropriate portions. As he talks, most of the guys in the room begin to share personal stories of how they had been influence by their dads either positively or negatively with what becomes apparent is that everyone has a story to tell!

I'm glad some of our students came over to our flat for this evening of fellowship, encouragement, discussion and prayer. Though there are missing dads and male role models in our society, I truly believe that these guys will come around to change that pattern and I've got faith that they will be able to entrust it onto other boys moving into manhood just as it has been entrusted onto us!

With their first night moving into Concorde Guest House as half of their team moves over to Port Shepstone to serve with Jason, the MK2MK team had to undergo Smart Choices Training. For me to have to train them on it, was interesting as I had never training a team before but they made it very easy for me and though I did alot of mishaps, especially with the crystal experiment, they were gracious and laughed it all out. We had a good weekend ending on a high and low note on Saturday. The Sharks were out and about at the Shark Tank against the Toyota Cheetahs so we decided to take our foreign friends for a good old rugby match. They had lots of fun and learnt the sports all together but unforunately one of the young gentleman had to be rushed to Westville Hospital, one of the congrete decorations had accidently fallen on his big toe. We so amazed and glad that it just missed his toe bone, only a painful broken toe nail and skin tear. He was admitted and had surgery the following day to remove the nail and 2 stitches! Praise the Lord his doing okay and recovering at the guesthouse, he was discharged the following day. Please be praying for his speedy recovery, I quite sure he doesn't want to spend his summer on crutches!

Keeping in hood hahaha

Trainers for the day: Ellis, Mpumi, myself, Dot

Family who provided lunch for use so so so delicious

My team has also been working with the Summer Project who have been spending their time this week at Newlands and Cator Manor. Seems like they are having themselves an amazing ministry there and with so much stories of how people in those communities are receiving prayer, testimonies of how the Lord has been working one in particular by one of our student who had prayed for a father inside his home for him and his family! Activities included showing the Jesus Film, open air evangelism, door to door evangelism, vacation bible club, sports ministry!

I have been in Durban for only 3 days and already it feels like it has been a long week. My team mates are exhausted as they get into the last few days into the community then from the following week we will be returning to campus as our students themselves get back on campus for their second semester. I have been spending my days since I returned from my sisters funeral with the MK2MK project as we'd have been working in a number of schools namely Mandlenkosi High Scholl where the MK's have been teaching on leadership skills using materials called the Habituted and concurrently we have been having training in debate in the same school. The team has been so amazing in adapting to the changing environment from a day to day basis. This Thursday we had the kids show off their debating skills in a mini-debating challenge. It's just amazing how I feel they have been absorbing it all.
In other schools we had vacation bible school where within an hour numbers of kids present moved from 10 or so to over 200. We found ourselves having to think if we want to limit the numbers but we ended up not doing that. One of the school had sports camp though I didn't get time to spend with that group I heard the choice did and amazing job in working with the kids. Tomorrow is another training session for the kids this time with them presenting for us which should be exciting! Bafana

Sitting right across my mom at the memorial service of my sister. Eyes blood shot red, the pain she is feeling resonates when she looks at me. She can't hide it though she tries as much as she can. Looking away in an escape route not to start playing the chords to the song that will sound when all is said and done and it sinks in: 'My baby girl has left me.' She is strong . . . I convince myself - she is strong . . . but this strong, a chill comes up my spine to think of the road that lies ahead. When she looks at me, I think, she see's her girl - I don't know how to feel, how do you feel when she has been taken away. What is there to feel because they all come gushing in! When do you feel because it pains her when she see's it paining me.

Lerato is her name - beautiful name for a beautiful sister. Her name means LOVE! Listening to testimonies shared by her close friends - she loved the Lord! She loved her church, she was growing spiritually! She loved singing, she love worshiping! Beautiful name indeed, worth to be tatooed in remembrance #thinking.

Next to me sits my cousins, her name is Lerato as well. I sometimes think of the intimate relationship they both shared. Being a brother and not being around much to see her grow is what's challenging me now but I've been blessed to have people who have been around her that she looked up to, those who kept her in check in her defaults! That's really beautiful.

For some time, it had not sinked in. For a second I thought to myself: 'they speak about her as if she is dead' sudden truth hits me.

We can do this Lord. You can do this! You can heal all wounds, reshape all hearts, rebuild my family. Nick sent me this scripture - The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. I trust you are capable to do so! We are your righteous and you have declared us so!

Before the day began off, we spent time in prayer for the community

Today was alot of fun with our students as we started off with the first day working at a centre in KwaDabeka called Lethutukukhanya which means 'Bring in light'. Today basically set the week off and we manage to get much done with the vegetable garden looking super awesome and healthy, praise the Lord. The Summer Project have landed and will be seeing them tomorrow.

I am heading home to be with family following the loss of my young sister so will be away from the mission projects for the entire week until Monday next week. Trusting the Lord will continue working!

With the Summer Project team landing tomorrow evening at King Shaka Int. we as the campus ministry team are slowly getting cranky if I could say. Everyone in the team has certain roles, from organizing the accomodation for some of the campus students who have taken time from their holidays to join us and the summer project team in serving the Lord in Durban, to arranging training and programme to best effectively minister in the 3 weeks in the community we've been blessed with. We have in the passed few days had the not so awesome moments as we arrange and plan. One particular meeting we had sat in lasted for nearly 5 hours, fine tuning some of the activities we had planned for our mission trip.

Not only has it been amazing working with my team in putting flesh to the skeleton of this month, it has been challenging as we tend to have many disagreements on how we see things. The Lord has been so faithful in providing us with opportunities which some opened in the last minute to minister and we trusting Him to empower us with the Holy Spirit as so we could minister accordingly.

Currently in a taxi heading to the CBD to pick up on of our students, Enhle, who is so passionate in sharing the Gspel with particular interest in place where it doesn't exist or limited access - the 10/40 window which is known as the least unreached part of the world. It was a tremendous experience serving with her on the Botswana mission trip we both attended along with other students last year. Once again I look forward to serving with her once again this time around.

We will be living with the team, along with some of the other students who will be joining us in the coming few days and weeks.
