Summer meets winter

Durban Team
Praise God for all the work that He has carried us to do in the different communities we have been working with the past month as well as with the students who had been involved with the ministry that we have been doing this past 5 weeks. Here are some fast facts of what my month of June and July has been:
· 23 university students with Campus Crusade for Christ staff from different parts of U.S.A. served in KwaZulu-Natal in several communities namely: KwaDabeka, Cator Manor, Newlands, Ntuzuma
· 104 high school students (Missionary Kids—MK), staff and interns also with CCC from different parts of the world served also with our ministry and Genesis Church in Port Shepstone for 5 complete weeks
· The MK’s group was diverse, representing a large part of the world: Bulgaria, China, Hungary, France, Paris, Slovakia, Kenya, Croatia, Kazakhstan, U.S. and Budapest to name a few
· Churches partnered with; from forging to growing a relationship: 3 with the university students and 5 with the MK’s
· In Durban the MK team worked with  5 different schools in Ntuzuma, Inanda and Lindelani and Port Shepstone 1 school
· Ministry for the MK’s included ministering and participating YouthAlive Camp, Vacation Bible School in Port Shepstone and
Durban, tutoring in math, manual labour in Shepstone community,  teaching Life Skills and Smart Choices in high schools, training in debate and debating skills, serving in 2 different hospices, beach evangelism, to name a few
· Ministry for the university students involved a lot of church partnerships in showing the Jesus Film, soup kitchens, teaching life skills and Smart Choices, assist in maintaining vegetable garden in a community centre, running a thrift shop, door-to-door evangelism, open air evangelism, sport’s ministry, VBS and serving community based projects namely Isaiah House in eMolweni and Ukukhanya Life Care Centre in Ntuzuma
One could imagine how many stories there are to share when you work on a 5 week project. You see  how God works and provides through some of the most incredible occasions when you actually realize that you need to move off from your own power to His. Time flew quite fast having 2-3 months to prepare for these two teams.

A particular highlight for me with the university team having our own local students participate in what we had decide to call a ‘3 weeks Durban Mission Trip’. Basically students had to raise funds to join in with what the university team would be up to as they would be on holiday. Their basic day would comprise of community work in the mornings and training in the afternoons. This training was the first for our student to go through, called NLTC (New Life in Christ Training Curriculum). I had the privilege of teaching on ‘How to prepare and share your testimony’. The funds they would raise would cover such training and their food and transport. My team and I collectively took the decision to accommodate them in our flat—what an experience that was! It was incredible to see how the Lord has used this project to encourage our students in desiring to live striving to do God’s will, and express Him in their community. NLTC training included topics such as ‘How to prayer’, ‘Sharing your faith—what it means’, ‘What is discipleship’, ‘Basic follow-ups on new believers’.
